Three Space v1.2

March 30, 2015

Three Space v1.2 is a live audiovisual performance linking the melody and sonic textures within a minimal techno track directly to abstract visualisations inspired by experimental animators John Whitney Sr. and Larry Cuba.

This is the latest documentation of a work that first featured as part of a performance at Seeing Sound 3, Bath Spa University, UK, 24 Nov 2013 as part of Lewis Sykes’ Practice as Research PhD and recent collaborative practice with Ben Lycett.

Lycett & Sykes built a real-time, music visualisation system – integrating similar algorithms to those used by pioneering, computer-aided, experimental animators John Whitney Sr. and Larry Cuba – in openFrameworks, the open source C++ toolkit for creative coding. The visualisation was driven by MIDI data from the music produced by Sykes in Ableton Live.

More details about the work can be found at the Monomatic website.
